Kėdainiai Mosque, Lithuania.
Islam in Lithuania dates from the 14th century. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania extended south into the Crimean peninsula, an area that was populated by Muslim Tatars. Some of the Tatars were moved north into areas that are now in Lithuania, Belarus, and Poland. The Lithuanian Tatars integrated into larger society, adopting the Lithuanian language but maintaining their faith.
During the Soviet period, several mosques - including the one in Vilnius - and Muslim graveyards in Lithuania were destroyed. Today there are only a few thousand Muslims in the country.
